Took this a week or so ago WHILE DRIVING down to Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge from Fort Calhoun. Had to avoid a deep ditch on my left, AND oncoming traffic. Not highly recommended method of bird photography, but it is the best photo I have ever gotten of this bird in flight. Who can name the bird?

My guess - blue Heron.
YEs, I think it's a heron. We had one nesting here on our place last year.
Ok so maybe it is a Blue Heron but the ones out here are not nearly that dark in color.
You are all correct - it is a great blue heron. If you have one nesting at your place this year Janell, let me know soze I can come see it during the nesting period. This one does look darker than many, but alot of the darkness is shadow. And alot of times the sun angle makes them look alot lighter.
It's a beautiful picture. I'm glad you didn't crash getting it!
